Our highly durable blast resistant buildings and explosion proof structures are manufactured to all relevant standards and are thoroughly tested to ensure optimal reliability and performance. Protecting the health and well-being of employees is critical for companies in any industry; our OSHA-compliant modular structures can play a vital role in ensuring employee safety in even the most extreme environments, such as those regularly subjected to or at risk of explosions.
Common Applications for Blast Resistant Buildings
Commercial Structures Corp. manufactures several blast resistant modular buildings solutions ideal for use in a variety of hazardous locations.
Blast resistant modules are often used in mining operations and sites, near hazardous-material handling or storage facilities, in facilities that utilize volatile or high-pressure processes, and within or near specifically designated blast zones, which are present in a number of different industries.
When working at or near locations that present blast hazards, employees are at constant risk. Your obligation to protect them extends to all aspects of their work and includes much more than just standard personnel safety training; offices, break rooms, restrooms, and every other structure in a hazardous location should be reliably explosion proof.
This applies to scenarios outside of the industry, as well. Modular shelter guard houses in any secured facility — from sensitive government buildings to prisons and utility posts — can be built with a blast resistant structure, and can be further protected through the use of bulletproof siding, as offered by Commercial Structures.
Besides protecting employee safety, companies must also establish reliable means of safeguarding sensitive, delicate, or otherwise valuable equipment. When housed in our explosion proof structures, such equipment will remain as safe as your staff.
Blast Resistance Specifications, Standards, and Testing
Our standard blast resistant buildings weigh between 1,200 and 14,000 pounds, feature ceilings between 7 and 10 feet tall, and can be made as small as 8 feet long by 8 feet wide or as large as 40 feet long by 12 feet wide. Doors and windows — including specialized transaction windows with voice ports of various shapes — can be included without reducing blast resistance. Most importantly, all our blast resistant structures are rated for blast overpressure ranging from 5 pounds per square inch (psi) to 20 psi.
To achieve these excellent blast overpressure ratings for our explosion proof structures, we manufacture them to meet some of the strictest industry standards, including:
- MIL-STD-622F military ballistic limit standards
- MIL-P-46593A military ballistic limit standards
- OSHA 1910.307 Explosion Resistant Structures guidelines
- Class 1, Groups A, B, C, D, E, F, and G
- Class 2, Groups A, B, C, D, E, F, and G
To ensure the structural integrity of our modular explosion resistant buildings, we regularly perform a range of different tests, including live ammonium nitrate fuel explosion tests, fragment-simulating projectile (FSP) tests, and V-50 tests. During V-50 testing, our blast resistant buildings are fired upon at increasing velocity until projectiles are blocked (or not blocked) at a 50-50 ratio, thus determining the maximum limit of protection.
